Rev. Jackson Visits Ohio, Supports Recount

Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb's demand for a recount of the Ohio presidential vote will gain a significant boost this Sunday, when Jesse Jackson visits Columbus, Ohio to publicly announce his support for the recount and other challenges to the controversial Ohio vote.

Jackson joins Ohio Congressman and former presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich and a growing list of individuals and organizations calling for a recount.

..."Voter suppression and intimidation is a civil rights issue. Jesse Jackson is the perfect person to bring these concerns to a wider audience and we welcome his participation," said David Cobb, whose campaign has been leading the charge for the Ohio recount. Cobb has been joined in the recount demand by Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik. "We need to investigate, coordinate, litigate, recount and recuse," said Jackson, referring to the recount and other efforts and lawsuits challenging the legitimacy of the Ohio vote."

Nov. 28, 2004 The Free Press Kerry Supports Ohio Vote Investigation, Jackson Says by Steven Rosenfeld

"In analyzing the still-unofficial results, the totals reveal that C. Ellen Connally, an African-American Democratic candidate from Cleveland for Ohio Chief Justice, received 257,000 more votes than Kerry."

"Statistically, Kerry, as the Democratic presidential candidate, should have more votes than Connally. In a presidential election, most voters have the priority of casting a vote for president and the votes for president are almost always much higher than those of candidates farther down the ticket. When voters vote for Democratic candidates farther down the ticket, it is usually being driven by a sample ballot from the Party, starting at the top with president. Many voters simply don’t vote for Supreme Court justices. It is highly improbable that Connally’s vote totals would be so much higher than Kerry’s,
(ed's note: With Bush with a purported 130,000 vote lead in Ohio, this would be more than enough votes for Kerry to have won it.)
